One of if not the biggest PS4 exclusive of 2019 is Days Gone. Bikers, zombies, and action all make this one very interesting game. Like most other exclusives for the PlayStation 4, Days Gone is a very story-driven kind of experience. However, does it match what God of War, Spider-Man and Horizon Zero Dawn offer?

Thankfully, Bend Studio got to port the game to PC, so I gave it a second try in 2021. It’s common for video games to get a slow start, as the protagonist gets a heavy heaping of backstory and starts with a barren inventory. Thankfully for Days Gone, the story starts off gripping and engaging, and transitions to its musty Oregon map. Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game set in a harsh wilderness two years after a devastating global pandemic. Step into the dirt flecked shoes of former outlaw biker Deacon St. John, a bounty hunter trying to find a reason to live in a land surrounded by death.
Meet Decan
One of the things that I am surprised about in Days Gone is the story. What I am talking about here is how so many people are down on it! I actually thought the story along with the main character you play as, Decan St. John were both pretty awesome and had me very invested in what was going down.
Decan is a biker and he is a bit of a badass, but I would also say that he has a heart of gold and a softer side to him. There has been a plague that has taken over the world and it has affected people as well as wildlife. Basically, this plague has turned people into zombies. His story is very well told and there are some interesting flashbacks that explain who he is, why he is the way he is and why he is willing to do anything to help people who he is close to. His relationship with his buddy, Boozer, in particular, is awesome.
Have I Played This Before?
I will say that in terms of the gameplay, Days Gone is not really doing anything that I would say is radically new. However, it does what it does very well and I found it to be a very fun experience. The game is best described as a 3rd person action/adventure kind of game and it is a darn good one. As well as people who are infected, you have to watch out for other groups of people and of course infected animals. There are a few stealth missions and having to do stuff like hiding dead bodies to avoid detection do keep you on your toes while you are playing and make the game more than just all-out action.
Hit The Road
A huge part of the marketing of the game was around the fact that you played as a biker. You can hit the open road with your bike and it is actually pretty cool. I really liked the way that the bike handled and it got me out of a pinch on more than one occasion. Being a biker is a huge part of Decan’s personality and you do find yourself getting attached to his bike which is kind of weird!
Moving On Up!
While the story is something I really enjoyed. Days Gone does have you progressing on a gameplay level as you play. You are easily looking at 40 or more hours to get through the game and there is a skill tree that you can use to get better equipped for this messed up world. The best one I found was the ability to “focus” which basically allows you to slow down time around you.
I had a great time with Days Gone and feel that it is one of the more underrated PlayStation 4 exclusive games. It is well worth playing through and I certainly think that it should make it on many top games of 2019 lists when the year comes to an end.

While Sony has kept most of its exclusives on PS4 and PS5, the company has experimented with bringing its games to PC as well. Things started off with the Horizon Zero Dawn PC port, which will be followed up by the PC port for Days Gone, expected to hit the platform within the next few months. While fans wait to hear the official Days Gone PC release date, Bend Studio has released some more information on what to expect from the game's PC-exclusive features.
As long as players have a PC powerful enough to meet Days Gone's requirements, they will be able to take advantage of some PC-exclusive features. This includes ultra-wide monitor support, an unlocked frame rate, and improved graphics when compared to the PS4 version of the game. And while there are no PlayStation trophies available on PC, the PC version of Days Gone will still have full achievement support. Other PC-exclusive features were teased by Bend Studio, but haven't been elaborated on at the time of this writing.

Days Gone earned somewhat mixed reviews when it first released due to a variety of reasons, but it has since been looked back in a brighter light. Updates since launch vastly improved its technical issues, and despite its initial lukewarm reception, Days Gone sales were still quite strong.

Many more players will get to experience Days Gone for themselves soon enough. The Days Gone PC port should make the game accessible to a much wider audience, plus the game will soon be added to the PS Plus lineup. Days Gone is one of the free PS Plus games for April 2021, joining the service on April 6 alongside Oddworld: Soulstorm on PS5 and fellow PS4 game Zombie Army 4: Dead War.
Days Gone Pc Metacritic
PlayStation Plus subscribers on PS5 can try Days Gone without waiting for April 6. As it so happens, Days Gone is part of the PS Plus Collection on PS5, which gives owners of Sony's next-generation console instant access to some of the PS4's highest-rated games and its various exclusives.
It will be interesting to see if public opinion of Days Gone continues to improve as more people play the game. And if so, it will be interesting to see if that potential success sees Sony and Bend Studio move forward on a Days Gone sequel. Bend Studio's next game hasn't been confirmed at the time of this writing, but Days Gone fans should keep an eye out for more information.
Days Gone is out now for PS4 with a PC version coming later this year.
